The metal wire frame is resistant to rust and corrosion..Military ophthalmic laboratories fabricated these spectacle inserts There were two styles of optical inserts for the protective mask which were made available for users requiring visual correction. The M17 optical insert (6540-01-060-0611) sold here, which has a wire frame, is considered the safer of the two and is more easily fitted into the mask. The M17 gas mask optical frame insert has 44mm by 35mm eyewires, 30mm bridge, and integral split mounting rings.
